The dreamy Amalfi coast
The Amalfi Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located in the southwestern region of Campania, Italy. The coast, which for a long time has been one Italy's poorest regions due to its hilly landscape and lack of arable lands is for the same reason becoming iconically picturesque and is attracting travelers with the stunning beauty of its cliff-side dwellings.
The steep slopes of the coast are teaming with colorful houses and lemon gardens, which the locals swear are the best the world over. from the hillsides you get to enjoy the fresh citrus smells of the gardens and the view of the Mediterranean from above.
The area can be accessed using mostly ferries from, among others, Naples, Capri, or Salerno, which are by themselves very sought after tourist destinations with lots to see and enjoy.
Not too far away is also Pompeii and mount Vesuvius.
Cars and even buses are discouraged due to the lack of parking spaces and the narrowness of the roads. furthermore, hiking or biking offers the most intimate experience, and an up close and personal experience of the local culture.

The area is well known to high end tourists, so the prices are surprisingly higher than in many places in Italy. Travelers are also advised to be alert and have valuables and papers under watchful eye as the area is not immune to robberies and pick pick-pocketting.
